More on Kathie Spiss
New information, and a request, from hazelchaz
: "In other news, Kathie's memorial service will be Saturday, 24th of March, in Tucson. I have a prior engagement that day, but if anyone else is in a position to represent fandom I will publish additional details." (I'll be sending him a link to this post, but inquiries are best directed to him personally.)
Elsewhere, longtime fan Andrew Porter posted a link to Kathie's obituary

Sad news from RV Awards
's latest Ribbon Rundown, entitled "Everything's on hold":
Kathie Spiss passed away two nights ago. Current Mood: sad
You may recall that I've said that the two little old ladies in Tucson that run RV Awards have had major health issues. Well, Janet, the one with the broken limbs from the motorcycle accident, has been healing nicely, and has been running the shop while Kathie's been fighting cancer. Kathie's brother came to town to help with things, Janet hired on an assistant, Kathie moved into a hospice for a short stay, and now she's gone.
RV is behind on their orders but is trying to get caught up. I have not yet been told about a memorial service. If it's on a weekend, I might be able to drive out for it.
Where does that leave your ribbon orders?
If I've sent you an order number, i.e. if you were in one of my earlier orders, you're probably fine. I think.
If you were in the last-minute batch, I've sent in your order but I don't know if Janet and her new helper will get to it in time. I'm exploring options if it turns out they can't, so that you can get your ribbons before Gallifrey. I'll be in touch.

Ribbon sources: a hiatus
For those of you who aren't on hazelchaz
's mailing list, he just posted the following about RV Awards
Just got bad news from Arizona. Our little old ribbon ladies are having serious life issues, and after I receive the current order, ribbon production is shutting down for at least a month.
What does this mean for your orders? If you've paid for your ribbons, I'll be in touch with you individually to figure out whether you can have them in time, or if I'll be refunding you your money and helping you find an alternative means of production.
This is mostly going to affect July convention orders.
What about Worldcon and other August conventions? Too early to say for sure. But it won't surprise me if they cut back on their production volume.
More info to follow when I have it.
If you're in need of an alternate source, you may want to check out Chaz's FAQ page

The ribbons I'm bringing to Baycon this year.
said that this community needs some love, I'll share my photo of this year's Baycon ribbons here:
My katster ribbon is handed out indiscriminately to pretty much everybody I meet. The gopher ribbon is for gophers -- it's based on last year's hoax newsletter. The Ascended Master is for those who catch me in a specific place. All the rest of these are free to anybody at Baycon who comes up and asks for them nicely.
I'll try to do what I can in regards to posting what my badge looks like after this coming weekend.

Of interest to baycon attendees
Now appearing in the Programming Grid:Friday
4:00 PM - Alameda Room - Ribbonology 101
Ribbons. Everyone wants them. Some people have them. Our panelists will discuss where to get them, how to ask for them, and why we want them so badly. They might even have special ribbons for panel attendees. We're not allowed to confirm or deny that last point. You'll just have to show up.Caradwen von Braskat (M), Jeff Fennel, Christian McGuire, Milt Stevens

Ribbons are an expensive habit!
I have a lot
of ribbons with me, here at denvention3
. They are well over 800 in all (400 "new" eric_in_elevatr
, 200 "old" EitE, 100 6-2-1, 100 Bunk, plus "Hunter of Tupperware" and EitE cast/crew), which means that they cost me more than $200. That's more than I spent on my membership -- a worldcons
P.S.: Hope to make some more documentarian posts soon, including my FPGoH (arisia
2008) badge plume. Current Mood: surprised

Ribbon-y panel at conjecture_sd
So, last night, I talked to hazelchaz
, my ribbon supplier, and he told me about this panel
called, "Ribbons and Badges and Pins, Oh My! Fanthropology." If you're going to conjecture_sd
, definitely try to check it out. For those of us who aren't, I've encouraged him to write it up when he's done.Z
P.S.: Anybody got ribbon plans for siliconventions

in which J9 revises her list...to 78 and growing
so i found my *actual* badge in a box somewhere in my garage and it had more ribbons on it. so i have revised my original
list to include those. i put them on the front of the list because they were on my *actual* badge and have a lot of meaning to me. next year i think i will save all ribbons until sunday and then put them on in the order i would like them in...that way i dont have any that get misplaced because of faulty glue.
and now ( on with the showCollapse )

OK I'm a ribbon whore. I admit it. Though tied to the CC26 table I don't collect as many as some manage to do. If it wasn't for the OnGoing Ribbon Collection, things wouldn't be nearly as impressive.
I will post a listing of what I got at Baycon eventually. And I'll also post the ongoing ribbon collection.
If you are going to a con and have Ribbons, please come by the CC26 table and drop them off to me. And if I'm there, you'll get a Definitely Not In Kansas from me (Auntie M) Thnx! Current Mood: geeky

This is a pointer post to the baycon
2007 ribbons thread
